A Matryoshka (pronounced Ma-tro-shka) is a Russian nesting doll, where as you open each doll, you find another. Mat(b) is the Russian word for Mother and this shop is my baby. Inside you will find many layers, gift shop, fine art gallery, handmade goods, and a private tattoo studio catering to custom tattoos, one on one relationships.

The mission of El Centro of Topeka is to improve the lives of families and individuals through education and empowerment.

El Centro of Topeka is one of the few organizations in Topeka that provides culturally sensitive assistance to low income Hispanic families. Since opening its doors in 1972 the goal has been to be a trusted community resource center for individuals and families in need of help. Our services are designed to address the needs of our clients. Many of our clients speak very limited English and lack familiarity with programs and resources available to them.

Today we continue to strive to keep the spirit of service that Father Ramon exemplified…

El Centro’s mission is to strengthen communities and improve the lives of Latinos and others through educational, social and economic opportunities.

Organization Partners & Resources

Three leading Latino organizations in Topeka, Topeka League of United Latina American Citizens (LULAC) Council, El Centro of Topeka and MANA de Topeka joined together to create a leadership development program supported by the Kansas Leadership Center. The program is the first of its kind in Kansas and invites participates looking for a unique and rigorous leadership training opportunity.

Everything in the shop is handmade, by Kymm and her team working on site. The shop features sunflower-themed fused glass art – appropriate to its setting near the Statehouse in downtown Topeka, Kansas.

Prairie Glass Studio is the perfect venue for birthday parties, staff retreats, family gatherings, or a few friends to take a class together. Kymm and her staff provide instruction to get you started and are there to help you prepare your piece for completion in the kiln. Families or groups of friends can share an enjoyable afternoon creating beautiful fused glass.

The mission of Downtown Topeka, Inc. is to to ensure Topeka’s downtown is the center of a thriving regional economy through recruiting, retaining and engaging commercial, cultural and residential opportunities.

As well as overseeing the DTI Membership Association, DTI also provides administrative services and oversight for the Capital Business Improvement District (CBID) and the Downtown Topeka Foundation (DTF). The CBID is responsible for basic maintenance and snow removal of the core area and promotion of downtown in its entirety through marketing and events.

The Downtown Topeka Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit; raising funds for the purpose of preserving, restoring and improving buildings, lands, streets, parks, monuments and other historical and cultural aspects of the downtown area.
